Say hello to the future of Freestyle Highlining! The Modular Freestyle Kit gives you full control over the construction of your Freestyle Kit. Choose your favorite stretchy webbing as the stretch zone, optimize the weight of your backup (balancing that with cost), and get the burliest trick zone you can.
With the Modular Freestyle Kit, you can build the perfect freestyle line that matches your style. Maybe you want to use a stretchy webbing from another company, or you already have some webbing that you can use for the backup. It's up to you how you piece together your kit.
For the Stretch Zone, you have the choice of our 2 freestyle webbings (Paradigm and Paradigm Signature) or No webbing at all, if you want to use something you already have or something from another company. If you choose to get one of our webbings, you will receive 2x 40m lengths of this chosen webbing, with sleeved sewn loops on all ends.
For the Backup, you have the choice of either Secondaire or Silk 99. Or, if you want to use something else, you can select None. If you choose one of our webbings, you will receive 2x 50m lengths of this webbing with sleeved sewn loops on all ends.
For the TrickZone, you have the choice between our X-Stitch Style or Tensioned-Sleeve Style modular trick zone. Check the video below to learn more about that.
Please note, you will need connectors to piece this kit together. You can purchase your choice of connectors as an accessory to this kit, or use what you already have. If you plan to use soft connectors, please use soft thimbles between the connector and the sewn loop.
All sewn loops on all pieces of webbing that come with this kit are sleeved. If you want naked loops, please reach out to us when you place your order.
The main idea behind the Modular TrickZone is to morph Freestyle Lines into Segmented highlines. Due to the nature of Freestyle Highlines and how they are used, they are often some of the most abused highline rigs out there. For that reason, extra precautions must be taken with the materials used for a freestyle highline, as well as how they are rigged. We have seen the benefits of segmenting highlines in other areas of our sport, such as long highlines. These benefits, which start at shortening the fall in the event of a mainline failure, can also be very beneficial in the freestyle world.
However, since Freestyle Highllines are not super long, segmenting can be a bit of a challenge. In a traditional segmented highlines, you group all the sewn loops of the mainline and backup together from one segment to the next. This creates a hotspot of weight, which can be felt quite a bit on a freestyle highline. If we treat the TrickZone as it's own segment, that means there is 2 weight hotspots: 1 on each end of the TrickZone. This creates 2 powerful nodes of weight at one of the most dynamic areas of the freestyle line. In order to solve that, we had to come up with a way to spread the weight of a segment connection out over a bigger distance while retaining the benefits of a segmented line.
To accomplish this, we decided to decouple the mainline and backup line connections for the segments. This strays away from how normal segmented lines are rigged, which means we needed to add an additional connection between the mainline and backup lines to ensure we still had the benefit of shorter backup fall in the event of a mainline failure.
Both versions of our Modular TrickZone are constructed from 2 pieces of Paradigm webbing threaded through a 32mm Nylon Tubular Sleeve. For the X-Stitch version of the TrickZone, there is a single stitch in the center of the 3 webbings that goes through all 3. For the Tensioned Sleeve version, there is a stitch at both ends of the sleeve. These stitch on both versions accomplish the feature of shortening the backup fall in the event of a mainline failure. On the tensioned sleeve version, the stitches also keep the sleeve tight when the line is rigged.
A huge benefit of the way the Modular TrickZone is constructed is that it becomes fairly large. The platform is about 30mm wide and 10mm thick. With this massive platform, it becomes quite easy to spot during big rotational tricks and easy to catch with your hands and feet. This makes those highly dynamic tricks quite a bit more approachable.
One of the worst feelings is when you have a new freestyle rig and you are having a great session, but then you take a massive leash fall that has your leash prussik'd around the line. When you climb back up to the line, you spot a big 'ol abrasion right in the middle of your TrickZone. Before modular rigs came, that meant a costly repair job, with a few weeks of time missed, or a full new rig. Now, with the modular TrickZone and modular Freestyle Kits, you just need a new TrickZone!
Maybe your stretch webbing is just starting to get good or perhaps your backup is a super pricey high tech webbing. The last thing you want to do is replace those lines just because of a small bit of damage on your TrickZone.
Or, perhaps you love Webbing X from Company A for your stretch zone and Webbing Y from Company B for your backup and Trick Zone Z from Company C. Before modular rigs came about, this type of construction would be very difficult.
The Modular TrickZone and Freestyle Kit fixes these issues!
