Please Note: These Bungees are made by hand in our Colorado Warehouse. Building them takes quite a bit of time and requires a good bit of space. We mainly make them outdoors between 2 trees. This process is weather dependent and as such, orders may be delayed based on current weather conditions and backlog. If you are under time constraints for your bungee anchors, please contact us directly to ensure we can meet your deadline.
Say hello to the next generation of Freestyle Highlining! In cooperation with SlackX, the BC Bungees are a bungee pack made from high quality rubber thread cased inside of a polyester sheath with Amsteel slings at each end. These Bungees open up a whole new world of freestyle highlining!
Sold as a single unit or as a pair. See below for sizing information.
Made in Colorado
The BC Bungees are hand made here at our warehouse in Colorado. They consist of several layers of material, each with a purpose to give the bungee the best performance and durability as possible.
First, there is the rubber material. Each bungee has several wraps of rubber ribbon, which are then terminated at one location in the bungee (the yellow end). The number of wraps depends on the size of bungee, and is what determines how stretchy the bungee is and what length line it is good for.
Next comes the layer of food-grade plastic sleeving. This is both a moisture and abrasion barrier for the rubber strands. This layer is critical for keeping the rubber fresh. It is held in place by the keeper strands at each end. On top of the plastic sleeve is the outer cover. This cover is either a tubular nylon webbing or a polyester round sling cover. We use different colors to indicate the different sizes. V5 is black, V5.5 is red, and V6 is green. All the BA bungees will be orange.
At each end, there is a 4mm Amsteel Blue (coated Silver) Grog sling. One side has yellow protective sleeves on it and the other has purple. These grogs are wrapped around all the rubber strands. Between them, under the rubber, is a 5mm Amsteel Blue (coated Silver) sling. This is a backup for the rubber strands. This Amsteel sling will engage at roughly 10-12 kN (if the bungees are rigged in the correct orientation) if the rubber does not break.
Along the length of the bungee, there are 4 pieces of paracord. There is one at each end that passes through the covers and the spliced eye of the inner 5mm sling. These peices hold the covers in place while the bungees are being used. At the 1/4 and 3/4 positions along the bungee, there are 2 other pieces of paracord. These also pass through the covers and inbetween the rubber strands. These are there to help hold up your backups while the bungee is rigged. Please do not try and untie these paracord pieces as you can easily damage the bungee doing so.
Because these bungees are hand made, they take quite some effort and time to make. Please allow additional time for bungee orders to be shipped.
Select from five standard versions or three V-Shaped versions of Bungee Anchors based on the line length you're rigging. The BA1 through BA5 versions cover various line lengths, ensuring optimal performance and adaptability. The V5 through V6 versions cover the most popular lengths rigged by freestyle highliners.
Version | Line Length | Initial Length | Line Tension | Bounce Tension |
---|---|---|---|---|
BA1 | 20-30m | 1.2 m | 0.4-0.7 kN | 2 kN |
BA2 | 30-40m | 1.1 m | 0.6-1 kN | 2.4 kN |
BA3 | 35-50m | 1.2 m | 0.8-1.5 kN | 2.8 kN |
BA4 | 40-50m | 1 m | 1-1.6 kN | 2.8 kN |
BA5 | 50m+ | 1.1 m | 1.4-2 kN | 3.1 kN |
V5 | 50-60m | 4 m | 1.5-2 kN | 3.5 kN |
V5.5 | 55-70m | 4 m | 1.5-2 kN | 3.5 kN |
V6 | 65-80m | 4 m | 1.5-2 kN | 3.5 kN |
To start, we are only offering the V-Shaped Bungee Anchors. As we dial in the system to make them, we will add the standard versions as well.
Custom bungees are also available upon request, please contact us directly to discuss.
Standard bungees are designed to be rigged end-to-end, ideal for those looking for ease of use and stability. V-shaped bungees, or versions V5, V5.5, and V6, are designed to be folded in half and rigged in a V-Shape, offering a more stable and controlled bounce. Folding the bungees in half and rigging them end-to-end can work well if a V-Shape is not possible with your specific highline spot.
BA1 also performs well folded, particularly for 65-80m polyester or nylon lines, providing versatility and stability across a wide range.
The BA3 model is a well-rounded choice, giving top performance on a wide range of line lengths. For permarigs, consider a version more tailored to your setup. Personal factors such as body weight and bounce preference also influence which version to choose.
If you prefer more "pop" at the highest point of your bounce, keep your tension in the line higher than normal. If you want a slower, more controlled bounce, keep your tension lower than normal.
In general, the V-Style bungees will offer the most stability while you are bouncing due to the V-shape. This style will give the least amount of unwanted surf and the most straight bounce, which is ideal for when you need high stability at the very bottom of a massive bounce.
Nylon provides the best bounce but may need adjustments if wet or humid. Polyester offers durability, consistency, and minimal maintenance. Dyneema is light and durable, but requires handling adjustments due to the low stretch, needing the bungee anchors to supply all the bounce.
For lighter setups and extended lines, Dyneema might be ideal. For optimal performance and the biggest bounce, stick with a high performance nylon freestyle webbing in the 60-70m range. For the least maintenance and most consistent bounce, polyester is a great choice. If you choose a lower stretch webbing, keep your lines in the longer range (over 70 meters).
Given durability factors, a strong backup for the bungees is highly recommended. Spansets or 6mm Dyneema slings work well to backup the bungee anchors.
There are many unknowns with the BC Bungees. As such, we highly discourage using bungees with a permarig without a solution to remove the bungees from the system after each use. The effects of UV light, cold temperatures, and the elements are unknown for this product. They are well tested with normal usage on Freestyle highlines, but we have very little data on longevity and how the bungees respond to repeated usage and exposure to the elements. Take caution and rig with care.
Feel free to reach out with questions or suggestions. We're committed to improving performance and sharing insights.
